Plastic industries are increasing very rapidly as the uses of plastic has made life very easy cheap and comfortable. Plastic now a days is being used for every field of life from very simple to rocket and space. Plastic use is also increasing very rapidly in medical and science field. Today we will discuss how this plastic is processed here we will discuss in more details helping equipment for plastic processing.
Types of Plastic
There are two types of plastic.
Thermoplastic
These types of plastic can be melted and reshaped again and again (with very little change its properties) with the help of heat.
Thermoset
These types of plastic cannot be melted and reshaped again and again. Thermoset plastic take permanent shape on heating and their shape cannot be changed.
Thermoplastic Processing Techniques
Thermoplastic are most used plastics. There are lot of examples like plastic bottles, cans, auto parts, chair, table, casings for different equipment and electronic devices etc. These are the techniques:
- Injection molding (Different variants/types)
Most used plastic parts forming technique in which difficult shapes and geometries can be formed easily.

- Blow Molding (Different variants/types)
This molding technique is used to produce hollow drums cans and bottles like shape products. These cannot be made in injection molding.

- Thermoforming
Thermoforming is similar to injection molding in molds design. An extruded sheet of plastic is first heated to make it soft and then a pair of molds press and plastic sheet takes the shape of molds. Deposable glass plates forks and knives are the examples. This is a high production rate procedure.

- Vacuum Forming
Vacuum forming is much similar to thermoforming the only difference is that here in vacuum forming vacuum is used for the heated plastic sheet to take the shape of mold while in thermoforming mechanical means are used.

- Rotational Molding
- Compression Molding
Above listed are the techniques for plastic processing and required special machinery for that specific purpose but these machines needs more auxiliary equipment or helping machines to perform their duty efficiently. These includes following:
- Pumps
Pumps are used to circulate the liquids water and hydraulic oil.
- Chillers
Chillers are used to cool the product in molds and dies.
- Heat Exchangers
Heat exchangers are used to remove heat from water and hydraulic oil circulating in the machine and pipes.
- Cooling Towers
Cooling towers are used to remove from warm water used to cool hydraulic oil.
- Plastic Dryers
- Plastic Shredder
- Plastic Mixer
- Plastic Granulator
- Air compressor
- Air Blower
